How we raise our puppies .......

Expecting Chocolate, Yellow and Black puppies in May 2024

If you are interested in one of our puppies please read through the following information before contacting us. Updates can be found regularly on our Barkalinda Labrador Retrievers Facebook page.

Our puppies are whelped and closely watched (via cameras when required ) in a climate controlled room attached to the house or in our living area depending on the mum’s needs. When they are a little older puppies are moved to a heated area with outdoor access during the day and plenty of room to run around and develop their personalities. Our puppies are brought up with the help of our 13 year old son and 12 year old daughter.

All Barkalinda puppies are vet checked, vaccinated, wormed and micro chipped. By the time the puppies are old enough to go to their new home they have been socialised with children and adults, exposed to noises, been for walks through our paddocks and depending on the time of year, have been for a paddle in our dams.  We spend time with each puppy individually and take notes on temperament to ensure that each puppy goes to the most suitable home and we will always guide you to the right puppy. Depending on where you are on the list, you may not get a choice but every family ends up with the right puppy.

All parents are hip and elbow scored, DNA tested and have current eye certificates.

Puppies need to be at least 8 weeks old before leaving for their new homes, this is legislation from our governing body and is not negotiable. We don’t allow visitors until the puppies after puppies have had vaccines to reduce the risk of parvo and infection to the litter and stress on the mother. This is something that we are very strict with and will not risk the litter for anyone.

Our puppies are introduced slowly to solid food from the age of 3 weeks. We use and insist on a natural diet for all of our puppies. We will supply you with a few days of fresh food in your puppy pack to start you off and explain why it is so important to feed your puppy and dog a natural diet. Diet is a vital part of a healthy, problem free dog and we will be always available to talk to if you have any questions or concerns as your puppy grows.

All puppies will be registered with Dogs Victoria on a Limited Register unless previously discussed. This means strictly NO BREEDING unless previously discussed due to legislation regarding backyard breeding and puppy farms. We do not take deposit's until the puppies have been born and we know that they are fit and healthy. We will ask for deposits after the puppy's are 2 weeks old.

Please contact us if you have any other questions regarding our puppies, or Labradors in general.  Please understand that rearing a litter takes up most of our time so we just can’t answer calls when we have puppies, email is the fastest and preferred contact. Please note: When we have puppies we may only check emails once a week.
